Deep Dive: BEAM’s Impact
We track indicators across our programs — from middle school through college — that tell us whether students are on a pathway towards STEM success.
COLLEGE
In a recent quasi-experimental study, we asked,
“How does BEAM impact college enrollment and STEM majors?”
We found:
HIGH SCHOOL
In New York City, all public school students must apply to high school. BEAM provides advising to ensure that students can attend high schools that will prepare them for college and have good STEM course offerings.
Where do BEAM students in New York City attend high school?
In spring 2025, 20 BEAM students received admissions offers from NYC Specialized High Schools, including Stuyvesant, Brooklyn Tech, Brooklyn Latin, and the High School for Math, Science, and Engineering.
MIDDLE SCHOOL
BEAM begins with advanced math summer camps for rising 7th and 8th graders — Discovery and Summer Away, respectively. We aim for our students to:
Grow in mathematical problem solving
Increase math perseverance
Mathematical Problem Solving
How much do problem-solving skills grow?
Mathematical Perseverance
We asked students,
