Our Model
BEAM asks itself, "What do most scientists, mathematicians, engineers, and programmers do growing up?" and then, "How can we bring those same opportunities to underserved students?"
BEAM then creates a series of experiences for students from middle school through college:
7th-8th grades: advanced math summer camps focused on problem solving, logical reasoning, and community-building, including a 5-week nonresidential camp for rising 7th graders to explore advanced topics in math, and a 3-week residential camp on a college campus for rising 8th graders to dive deep into proof-based mathematics.
8th-12th grades: enrichment classes, field trips, and advising to identify and apply to great-fit high schools, rigorous STEM programs, and college. The focus in high school is to prepare students to matriculate to and succeed at strong-fit colleges.
College and Career Success: support for students to succeed in and beyond college. We help students navigate the college environment and thrive on campus, build social capital, and provide strategic support in skills that will lead to post-college jobs and/or graduate school studies. We also provide a small number of scholarships and direct aid to help students continue their education and navigate unforeseen financial challenges.
Our students have tremendous potential but few opportunities. Our goal is to make sure they can excel and achieve their STEM dreams.
