Available Positions — Los Angeles

Development and Communications Manager (NYC/National)

The Art of Problem Solving Initiative, Inc. (a 501(c)(3) organization) is a young and rapidly-growing organization, now launching our first expansion to Los Angeles. Through our flagship program, BEAM, we work to guide underserved students with talent in math so that they can achieve success as scientists, mathematicians, engineers, and programmers. Over the past six years, BEAM has grown from a small summer program serving 17 students to five summer sites that will reach 380 students in 2018 and offer year-round advising and support to over 400 alumni.

As BEAM has grown, we are now looking to bring someone on who can manage our growing needs in fundraising and communications. To that end, we are searching either for someone we can train up (at the coordinator or manager level) or an experienced Director of Development to lead our efforts for the coming years. As head of our development and communications effort, your role will be to coordinate and track outreach to existing supporters, develop relationships with potential supporters, organize and lead fundraising events, research grant opportunities, and apply to grants. In addition, you will work with senior leadership to develop fundraising strategies and messaging and help plan the overall financial strategy for the organization.

We encourage applications both from experienced development professionals as well as from STEM professionals looking to apply their skills in a new way. For a detailed discussion of the role and responsibilities, as well as to apply, please view the job description.

Site Director and Program Coordinator (LA)

Bridge to Enter Advanced Mathematics (BEAM) is seeking a Site Director and Program Coordinator as our second hire in Los Angeles. As our second Los Angeles hire, you will be an integral part of building our programming in the LA area. While your primary responsibility will be launching the first implementation of our three-week residential summer program for rising 8th graders and year-round support efforts, in practice you will be involved on all levels of the organization. This is a unique opportunity to get in on the ground level of an innovative organization that is changing the landscape of advanced work in STEM.

Elementary School Program Lead (NYC)

Bridge to Enter Advanced Mathematics (BEAM) is seeking an Elementary School Program Lead. You'll be part of a close-knit team helping exceptional young people to achieve their full potential. As Elementary School Program Lead, you will launch (and teach for) a new project to bring mathematics enrichment to younger ages than we have previously reached, helping students to discover and enjoy mathematical reasoning, and providing a new entry point to our programs for advanced study. You will have a unique opportunity to design the curriculum that will be used as we expand out the program.

This position is well-suited for a teacher with experience with elementary school students and a background going beyond the school math curriculum. For more information and to apply, please view the job description.

Middle School Program Assistant (NYC)

Bridge to Enter Advanced Mathematics (BEAM) is seeking a Middle School Program Assistant to lead our efforts to spread interesting mathematics to middle school students across NYC and to support BEAM alumni in 7th and 8th grade. As Middle School Program Assistant, you will coordinate classes, mentoring, and other opportunities for middle school students who've been to BEAM's summer programs, as well as organizing a network of math teams in middle schools across the city. You will also be present in the students' lives, providing individual guidance as students seek out new opportunities and navigate the end of middle school and beginning of high school, and you will help develop programming to keep alive the vibrant community that students experienced during the summer.
